We are pleased to share that Yellow4FLAVI was represented at the European Congress of Virology (ECV) 2025, where our team member Pinja Jalkanen from the University of Turku, Finland, presented a scientific poster highlighting recent advances in our research on B cell-mediated immunity to yellow fever virus (YFV).
Key Highlights :
✅ B cells are widely recognized for producing antibodies, but their role in the immune response extends far beyond. They are key players in shaping adaptive immunity by capturing, processing, and presenting antigens to T cells—critical steps for triggering long-lasting and effective immune protection.
✅ As part of Yellow4FLAVI’s scientific work, an experimental system is being developed to study how B cells interact with yellow fever virus antigens. Specifically, we are comparing the YF17D vaccine strain, one of the most successful vaccines in history, with wild-type (natural) YFV. The aim is to better understand how B cells recognize yellow fever virus components and help trigger broader immune responses.
✅ Through this work, we hope to uncover the key immune mechanisms behind the YF17D vaccine’s success. Gaining a deeper understanding of these processes could provide a valuable framework for designing next-generation vaccines against other flaviviruses.
Stay tuned for further updates on Yellow4FLAVI’s research as we continue to explore the frontiers of flavivirus immunology.
